The plaque unveiling ceremony of Qinghai Lake Plateau Lake Wetland Ecological and Environmental FIeld Observation Station was held at Bird Isle, or Niao Dao, in Qinghai Lake, on July 5, 2021.

The ceremony was joined by the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Qinghai Lake Scenic Area Protection and Utilization Administration Bureau.    

Under the impact of global climate change and intensified human activities, the institute will further strengthen its research on the evolution of lake wetland ecosystem in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, focus on biodiversity conservation and protection of water ecological environment, said YIN Zhan, director of IHB, at the ceremony.     

The station shall improve water ecological monitoring and management abilities, strengthen biodiversity conservation, and promote restoration and comprehensive management of the overall conservation system in the Qinghai Lake basin, said GAO Jingyu, deputy director general of the Qinghai Lake Scenic Area Protection and Utilization Administration Bureau, at the ceremony.   

The establishment of the field observation station marked a higher and wider level of cooperation between IHB and Qinghai Lake Scenic Area Protection and Utilization Administration Bureau.   

Both sides will work together to restore the water ecology and water ecological environment in the Qinghai Lake Basin, carry out the construction of scientific research bases, train professional and technical personnel, protect the ecology of the Qinghai Lake basin, and comprehensively promote the health of the water ecosystem and the protection of biodiversity in the Qinghai Lake basin.
