In recent years, as the ecological environment of Yangtze River continues to improve, the number of Yangtze finless porpoise, which is in an endangered state, has rebounded. However, because the Yangtze finless porpoise lives in water, little is known about it.
Wuhan City is vigorously promoting the "Return of the Finless Porpoise to the city" program. A Yangtze Finless Porpoise Breeding Technology Research Center will be established to carry out breeding and scientific education.
As a center of scientific research on the artificial breeding of Yangtze finless porpoise, the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences has the largest artificial breeding group of Yangtze finless porpoise in China, and has successfully bred several finless porpoises and studied their reproduction and development patterns.
