On March 27th, the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), held the launching meeting of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Basic and Interdisciplinary Frontier Research Program, "Major Viral Diseases and Pathogenic Mechanisms of Aquatic Animals and High-Efficiency Prevention and Control Technologies". 

 XU Hang, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Science and Technology Promotion of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, GUAN Wuxiang, Vice President of the Wuhan Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, relevant officials from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Department of Science and Technology of Hubei Province, MIAO Wei, Director of the IHB, HU Wei, Deputy director of the IHB, project leaders and participants, core researchers, and invited special consultants, totaling more than 60 people, participated in the launching meeting. 

Leaders from the IHB, the Bureau of Science and Technology Promotion, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the Department of Science and Technology of Hubei Province delivered speeches respectively. Deputy director XU Hang read out the project approval notice and the list of special consultation experts. The special consultation experts for this program consist of nine experts, including CAS member GUI Jianfang. Director MIAO Wei presented the certificate of appointment to the consulting experts. 

Professor XU Zhen from the IHB, as the project leader, reported on the implementation plan of the project. Each project leader reported on the implementation plan of their respective projects. Experts at the meeting conducted in-depth reviews of the research content and technical proposals, providing valuable guidance for the further advancement of the program. CAS member GUI Jianfang emphasized the need for coordination and integration among the projects, striving for major achievements. 

Director MIAO Wei emphasized that the IHB would fully support the implementation of the program and take this opportunity to promote the growth of young scientific researchers oriented by demands, problems, and goals. He stated that the institute would optimize the assessment and performance evaluation system in management to stimulate the enthusiasm and creativity of team members. 

Deputy Director XU Hang pointed out that the program has entered a crucial stage, and the Bureau of Science and Technology Promotion, the IHB, and the project teams need to implement various tasks promptly. He suggested sorting out and actively absorbing expert suggestions, uniting and cooperating to ensure the project achieves significant results.
