Professor from the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission Visits IHB

On May 8, senior professor Yonghua LI-Beisson from the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission was invited to the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences, for academic exchange. She delivered a lecture titled "Explore Algal Lipid Metabolism for a Sustainable Bioeconomy and Environmental Remediation," discussing the latest advancements and potential applications of algal lipid metabolism.

During her talk, Prof. LI-Beisson addressed the key scientific issue of overcoming the inverse relationship between cell growth and lipid content. She explored the genetic, biochemical, and environmental regulatory mechanisms of lipid metabolism in the model microalga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. She shared her extensive research experience and findings, emphasizing the role of lipid metabolism in environmental adaptation and the potential applications of natural algal lipids. She also discussed her teams work on algal carbon dioxide concentration mechanisms and their significant potential in carbon fixation. Her presentation sparked wide interest among attendees, leading to in-depth discussions on scientific issues related to algal lipid metabolism and its applications.

Dr. Yonghua LI-Beisson is a senior professor at the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission, a part-time professor at the University of Marseille, and head of the Plant Lipids Division of the European Lipid Association. She serves on the editorial boards of authoritative botanical journals like The Plant Cell, Plant Cell and Physiology, and New Phytologist. She has published over 90 SCI papers in internationally renowned academic journals such as Nature, Science, PNAS, and Plant Cell, with over 9,000 citations and an H-index of 39.
