(ECNS) -- China's second generation of artificially-bred Yangtze finless porpoise was named Han Bao after days of online name-collecting, voting and experts' selecting in Wuhan, central China's Hubei Province on Monday.

The name-collecting campaign for the calf was launched on Oct. 13, and 1,211 names (excluding duplicate names) have been received as of Oct. 18.

The male calf was born on June 3, 2020 and code named YYc because YY is the abbreviation of  his mother's name Yang Yang and c means calf.

His mother was transferred from Poyang Lake and his father Tao Tao, was the first artificially-bred finless porpoise worldwide.

Han Bao turns two this year and weighs about 140 kg, said Hao Yujiang, a researcher at the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
