IHB Student Participates in Scientific Expedition in the Pacific's Mariana Trench

Aboard XIANGYANGHONG 09 - Jiaolong, China's first manned deep-sea submersible, ended its trial and exploration voyage in the Pacific Ocean and came back to its home port in Qingdao on July 13. Student LU Suxiang from Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) participated in the voyage. 

During the expedition that lasted 94 days, the submersible has explored the Pacific's Yap Trench and Mariana Trench, accomplishing 22 dives and reaching depths of up to 6,796 meters. A lot of geological, biological and deep water samples and high definition videos were acquired in this expedition.
