IHB Scientists Investigate on Aquatic Organisms and Water Environment in Hanjiang River

IHB Scientists conducted a winter survey on aquatic organisms and water environment in the middle and lower reaches of Hanjiang River from 30th January to 4th February, 2018.

Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences, commissioned by the South-to-North Water Diversion Bureau of Hubei Province, conducted a winter survey on aquatic organisms and water environment in the middle and lower reaches of Hanjiang River from 30th January to 4th February, 2018. A total of eight monitoring sections were set up in the middle and lower reaches of Hanjiang River, and three sampling sites were set up in each section.

The survey contents of each sampling site includes water environment parameters, such as water depth, transparency, water temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, chlorophyll-a, permanganate index, CODMn, BOD5, ammonia nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, total phosphorus, dissolved phosphorus, and aquatic biological indicators such as phytoplankton, zooplankton and zoobenthos.

The survey was conducted under the severe cold weather after blizzard. Investigators overcame the difficulties caused by bad weather and successfully completed the monitoring and sampling of tasksand obtained data with nice quality and quantity. They accumulated a valuable first-hand data for the research on the status of aquatic organisms and water environment in the Hanjiang River in extreme weather.
