General Introduction:

Established in 1950, the major research areas of the Research Group of Taxonomy and Ecology of Benthos are:

* Invertebrates: taxonomy of Oligochaeta, Mollusca, etc; ecology of zoobenthos and zooplankton

* Large river conservation and hydroecology: holistic conservation of the Yangtze River system and others; river-floodplain ecology; environmental flow requirements

* Eutrophication control and macrophytes restoration: comparative ecology and multiscale experimental limnology; mechanisms and thresholds of regime shifts; abating factor of eutrophication (P only, not P+N); effects of high nitrogen loading and limits to loosen nitrogen control; ecological control of sediment pollution; modelling of macrophytes restoration and technology system

* Ecosystem health assessment: biomonitoring; overall and diagnostic assessment of ecosystem health
