General Introduction: 

The Research Group of Fishery Ecology mainly studies the relationship among fishery activities, aquatic organisms and water environment and the ways of aquatic ecosystem regulation, with the purpose of providing scientific guides and technical support for the sustainable development of inland fishery in China.  

Since the 1980s, this group has systematically accumulated fishery ecological data and devoted itself to solving key scientific problems. At the same time, it has carried out basic applied research on fishery ecology, explored the technical principles of rational utilization, conservation and restoration of fishery resources in lakes and reservoirs, developed aquaculture techniques for high-valued aquatic products, established high-quality and efficient ecological fishery models, and continually adopted national key research programs.  

This group has set up several experiment stations in fields, including Bao’an Lake, Liangzi lake, Niushan Lake, Luhu Lake, Wuhu Lake, Qiandao Lake, Bosten Lake, Hulun Lake and Shanmei Reservoir. It has won two national S&T awards, and six provincial and ministerial awards. In the past five years, researchers from this group have compiled three fishery standards of China and six local standards, published more than 80 scientific papers, and edited two books. In addition, 15 patents have been granted. 

In recent years, this group focuses on the strategic needs of upgrading techniques and green development of China's fishery, and its major research fields include:  

* Theories and methods of assessing fishery capacity in lakes and reservoirs 

* Food web dynamics and ecological fishery management modes 

* Stock enhancement technologies for fishery species of different trophic guilds 

* Algae control technologies based on fish community manipulation in eutrophic water bodies 

* Pollution reduction and ecological restoration technologies for aquaculture water bodies 

* Ecological principles and modes of efficient multi-species polyculture in ponds 

* Ecological principles and modes of integrated aquaculture in rice-fields and fishery
