The laboratory addresses the needs for quality improvement, efficiency enhancement, and intelligent transformation within the modern fisheries industry chain in Hubei Province. It focuses on key scientific issues across the "breeding–cultivation–harvesting–processing" continuum. It aims to make breakthroughs in the theory and technology of interactions among "aquatic organisms–water environment–intelligent equipment."

The laboratory will establish identification benchmarks and a digital twin platform for the multi-element life cycle of aquatic products, covering genotype, phenotype, and envirotype. It will develop intelligent fisheries equipment for areas such as smart breeding, precision feeding, counting/grading/sorting, production trait identification and analysis, rapid disease detection, patrol/inspection/cleaning, and recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) water treatment. 

The goal is to construct multi-scenario, engineered digital smart fishing farms and develop intelligent technologies and equipment for the intelligent deep processing of aquatic products and the efficient utilization of by-products. Ultimately, the laboratory strives to build itself into a hub for scientific and technological innovation in smart fisheries in Hubei Province.
