The China Ichthyological Society is a national academic organization under the Chinese Society for Oceanology and Limnology and the China Zoological Society, composed of scientific and technological workers engaged in ichthyological research and teaching. 

It was initiated and established in 1979 by ichthyologists WU Xianwen and ZHU Yuanding, and is currently affiliated with the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. 

Its purpose is to unite ichthyological workers, promote academic exchange and technological dissemination, and develop and advance ichthyological research and teaching.
