Meet the Yangtze River's Most Distinctive Species

 

January first marks the beginning of a 10-year fishing ban on the Yangtze River in China, Asia's longest river. Chinese authorities said the move aims to restore the vitality of the river, which has seen dwindling fish stocks and declining biodiversity over the past few decades. The Yangtze River has more than 400 fish species, more than 100 of which are endemic. Some of the aquatic creatures have a history that dates back much longer than human civilization. CGTN's Xu Mengqi visited a specimens museum in Wuhan and told us more.
