IHB Scholars Attend the 9th International Phycology Congress
The 9th International Phycology Congress was held at National Olympics Memorial Youth Center, Tokyo, Japan from August 2 to 8. About 500 representatives from 44 countries and regions attended this congress, among whom 38 representatives were from China (21 from Chinese Mainland, 2 from Hong Kong, 15 from Taiwan).
A variety of topics were discussed at the congress, such as life cycle of phytoplankton and population dynamics, alien invasive species, biological response to stress, chemical ecology, environmental restoration, evolution of biological system, symbiotic algae, algal bioenergetics and CO2, algal genomics, algal diseases, biodiversity and ecofunction, biological and environmental education etc.
IHB’s deputy director Prof. Zhengyu HU, Prof. Lirong SONG, Prof. Yonghong BI attended this congress and made presentations on “Diel vertical migration pattern of Peridiniosis nies sp. nov. in Xiangxi Bay of Three Gorges Reservior”, "Mechanism study on the frequent variations of cell-bound microcystins in cyanobacterial blooms in Lake Taihu”, "The effect of TGR's 175m ecperimental impoundment on phytoplankton community in Xiangxi Bay, China”, introducing their own research progress recently.
During the congress, Prof. Zhengyu HU also participated in the web-based conference, negotiating on CO2 reduction by algae in the Asia-Pacific region. Prof. Lirong SONG was invited to attend the symposium on microalgal bioenergetics after the congress.
