IHB Signs an Academic Exchange Agreement with Lake Biwa Museum
IHB Prof. Shunping HE (L) exchanged an academic exchange agreement with Prof. Hiroya Kawanabe, director of Lake Biwa Museum at Lake Biwa Museum, Sept. 3, 2009.
On behalf of the Institute of Hydrobiology (CAS), IHB Prof. Shunping HE exchanged an academic exchange agreement with Prof. Hiroya Kawanabe, director of Lake Biwa Museum at Lake Biwa Museum, Sept. 3, 2009. This 5-year agreement, signed by IHB’s director Prof. Jindong ZHAO and Prof. Hiroya Kawanabe, director of Lake Biwa Museum, aims at strengthening academic exchange and bilateral cooperation between both sides. The included articles are exchange of scholars, journals and specimen etc. After the signing ceremony, IHB Prof. Shunping HE was interviewed by NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) and Kyoto Shimbun News, answering issues concerning with the significance of signing this agreement and further cooperation with Lake Biwa Museum.
Lake Biwa is the largest freshwater lake in Japan, located in Shinga Prefecture, northeast of the former capital city of Kyoto. Lake Biwa Museum, located in Kusatsu, Shiga Prefecture, devotes its studies on the relationship between Lakes and people, focusing on Lake Biwa and changes that have taken place during its long history. The museum, which is Japan’s important fish breeding and conservation center, houses one of the largest freshwater aquariums in Japan, displaying many of the endemic species from Lake Biwa.
IHB maintains a good relationship with Lake Biwa Museum. The signing of the agreement will further strengthen cooperative researches of mutual interest.
