IHB Signs an MoU with Royal University of Phnom Penh to Promote Cooperation

 
On behalf of each institution, Prof. XU Xudong, deputy director of IHB, signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with Prof. Oum Ravy, vice president of RUPP on Nov. 17, 2016.
 

Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) on Nov. 17, 2016. At the signing ceremony, Prof. XU Xudong, deputy director of IHB warmly welcomed the visiting delegation led by Prof. Oum Ravy, vice president of RUPP and Ms. Chea Eliyan, executive director of the Department of Environmental Sciences at RUPP.    

Prof. HE Feng, head of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs at IHB, introduced the background against which the cooperation was built on and the functions that the bilateral cooperation might play in the One Belt and One Road initiatives.    

On behalf of each institution, Prof. Xu and Prof. Ravy signed the MoU. Based on mutual benefits, both sides reached agreements on scientific cooperation, joint lab construction, joint training of students etc. The signing of this MoU will further strengthen the cooperation between IHB and the RUPP.   

The visiting delegation visited the Museum for Aquatic Organisms, Baiji Dolphinarium, Analysis and Testing Center at IHB. They also had a field trip to the constructed wetland locale which was designed by IHB researchers on 3rd Street of Optical Valley in Wuhan. The visiting delegation also introduced the scientific and educational development in Cambodia.    

The Cambodian guests’ current trip to IHB is part of the major international project Investigation & Evaluation of Aquatic Resources and Construction of Joint Platform in Typical Areas of GMSwhich is supported by Chinese Academy of Sciences. The project is led by IHB. IHB Prof. WU Zhenbin is the principal investigator. Researchers from Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS and Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth, CAS participated in this project.    

In March, IHB Prof. QIU Dongru and Associate Prof. XU Dong visited Cambodia with the delegation led by Prof. BAI Chunli, president of CAS. During their trip, they visited the RUPP and discussed on some initial issues related to this project.    

The RUPP is Cambodia’s oldest and one of the largest public universities. It is unique in Cambodia for offering specialist degrees in the fields including sciences, humanities and social sciences, as well as professional degrees in the fields such as information technology, electronics, psychology, social work, and tourism.
