IHB Researchers Attend the 16th IAP Workshop
IHB participants with Prof. Komarek, a well-known cyanobacterial taxonomist at the 16th IAP Workshop.
The 16th workshop of the International Association of Phytoplankton Taxonomy and Ecology (IAP) was held in Italy from August 21 to 27, 2011. Prof. LI Renhui, Associate Prof. LIU Guoxiang, Dr. BI Yonghong and doctoral student TAN Wenhua from Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) attended the workshop.
At the workshop, Chlorophyta, Dynophyta and cyanobacteria were discussed in the taxonomic sessions. The ecological topic was “Phytoplankton responses to human impact at different scales”. The meeting gathered scientists and students from various parts of the world to share their views in phytoplankton ecology and taxonomy. It was organized in formal oral and poster presentations, as well as microscope sessions for the examination of water samples under the guidance of leading experts.
Prof. Li and Associate Prof. Liu respectively made presentations entitled “Diversity of water bloom forming cyanobacteria in Chinese waters: from morphology to genomics” and “Morphological differences and molecular phylogeny of freshwater blooming species, Peridiniopsis spp. from China” at the workshop.
The next IAP Workshop will be held in Greece after three years.
