IHB Researchers Attend 6th Asian Pacific Phycological Forum
The 6th Asian Pacific Phycological Forum was held in Yeosu, South Korea during October 9 and 14, 2011. About 300 representatives from Asian Pacific region were present at the forum. Prof. HU Zhengyu, deputy director of Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB), as well as his doctoral student ZHANG Qi attended the forum.
The 6th Asian Pacific Phycological Forum was organized by the Korean Society of Phycology. The main title of the forum is “Algae, the future resources”. The following topics were featured in the forum: algal biofuel, taxonomy and evolution, environmental biology, applied biology and physiology and cell biology.
As a member of the International Advisory Council of the forum, Prof. Hu chaired the session "Taxonomy and Evolution”. ZHANG Qi made an oral presentation entitled “A new variety of Trentepohlia from China, and the causing of the Trentepohlia-bloom in glacier valley of Gongga Mountain”, introducing some morphological, ecological and molecular characters of the large-scale Trentepohlia bloom in glacier valley of Gongga Mountain. The attendees suggested some constructive proposals on algal culture, pigment analysis etc. The forum conferred extra financial support on this student.
It is decided that the 7th Asian Pacific Phycological Forum will be held in China in 2014.
