Prof. Sovan Lek Appointed as CAS Visiting Professorship for Senior International Scientist
On December 11, 2011, Prof. Sovan Lek was awarded the Visiting Professorship for Senior International Scientist of Chinese Academy of Sciences at Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB).
Prof. Sovan Lek was awarded the Visiting Professorship for Senior International Scientist of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dec. 11.
Prof. Sovan Lek is a French professor (exceptional class) working at University Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France. His research is mainly in Fish Community Ecology and Ecological Modelling. In Fish Community Ecology, his research concerns the biodiversity and the spatial distribution of fish according to the environmental characteristics and the response of fish community to the human disturbances. In Ecological modeling, he is mainly interested in the applications of Artificial Neural Networks in Ecology, using supervised and un-supervised learning algorithms.
Prof. Lek is editorial board of Ecological Modelling and the e-journal Ecosystems & Communities, The scientific World. He is director of PhD school of Sciences Ecologiques, Vétérinaires, Agronomiques et Bioingénieries and president of Specialist Commission of Ecology in the University of Paul Sabatier. He published more than 100 papers in the journals such as Nature, Ecology Letters, Journal of Applied Ecology and Conservation Biology.

Recommended by IHB, Prof. Sovan Lek was appointed as the CAS Senior International Scientist in recognition of his outstanding contribution and exceptional scholarly merit in fish community ecology and sustainable development of fisheries.
IHB’s deputy directors Prof. XU Xudong, Prof. XIE Shouqi and Mr. Marc Bondiou, counselor for scientific and technological affairs at the Consulate General of France in Wuhan attended the appointment ceremony.
