Fish Parasitologist Dr. Jorge Eiras Awarded CAS Visiting Professor for Senior International Scientists

 
IHB Prof. Hu Wei, assistant director of the institute, presented the Letter of Appointment to Prof. Jorge Eiras.
 

On the afternoon of Sep. 24, an appointment ceremony chaired by Prof. Hu Wei, assistant director of Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB), was held at Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB). Fish parasitologist, Prof. Jorge Eiras from Porto University of Portugal was awarded the Visiting Professor for Senior International Scientists of CAS. After the ceremony, Prof. Jorge presented an academic lecture entitled "Research about Fish Parasites at the Department of Biology of Faculty of Science of Porto (Portugal)"which summarized his academic achievements on taxonomy, life cycles, epidemiology and phylogeography of fish myxosporean, apicomplexans and cestodes.  

Prof. Jorge obtained his Ph.D in 1981 at the University of Porto, Portugal. Subsequently, he obtained associate professor and full professor position in 1984 and 1990, respectively. For his excellent academic achievements and administration capacity, Prof. Jorge held the position of director of the Institute of Zoology, Department of Biology, University Library, University of Porto and director Institute of Marine and Environmental Research, Portugal.   

Prof. Jorge has so far published more than 100 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and 5 books and is memberships in editorial boards or referees of some international journals, including Aquaculture, Zootaxa, Veterinary Parasitology; Diseases of Aquatic Organisms, Brazilian Journal of Biology, etc.   

During his staying period, Prof. Jorge will work on the taxonomy and phylogeny of fish and amphibian myxosporeans with researchers of the Research Group of Healthy Aquaculture, IHB.
