Prof. Scholz Tomas and Dr. Kuchta Roman from Institute of Parasitology at Biology Center of Czech Academy of Sciences and Dr. Oros Mikulas from Institute of Parasitology of Slovak Academy of Sciences paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) to conduct a joint cooperation project on the diversity and phylogeography of fish intestinal cestode and eye-infecting nematode from Apr. 13 to Apr. 27 of 2015. During their visit, they investigated the taxonomy and fauna of intestinal cestode and nematode from common carp, crucian carp, mud fish, Chinese perch, several culter species, catfish and other wild fish collected from Baoan lake, Liangzi Lake, Honghu lake, Dangjiankou reservoir and Taihu lake. This cooperation was jointly supported by Chinese Academy of Sciences and Czech Academy of Sciences.

On Apr. 20, the three visiting researchers gave oral presentations with the titles of “Fish parasitology: past, present and future”; “Phylogeny and evolution of the the bothriocephalidean tapeworms” and “Current research on unsegmented fish tapeworms (Cestoda)”, respectively. Prof. Scholz reviewed the past, current and future of fish parasitology over the work, and encouraged young Chinese fish parasitologists to join more in the international cooperation.

Dr. Kuchta and Dr. Oros gave wonderful introduction on their recent research progress on phylogeny, taxonomy and phylogeography of fish cetodes, especially their newly constructed online database of fish cestode reported over the world. There have been a long history of cooperation between IHB and Institute of Parasitology, Czech (Slovakian) Academy of Sciences. Their current visit has deepened and extended the communication and friendship between the both sides.

Prof. Scholz, former director of Institute of Parasitology, Czech Academy of Sciences (2002-2012) is a well-known fish parasitologist, incumbent chairmen of Biology Center of Czech Academy of Sciences, editor in-chief of Folia Parasitologica which is an international peer-reviewed journal, vice editor in-chief of Journal of Parasitology, and editor of several parasitology-related journal, including Acta Parasitologica, Korean Journal of Parasitology, Paraite, Systematic Parasitology.
