IHB Researchers Attend 13th International Symposium on Aquatic Oligochaeta

Dr. CUI Yongde from IHB gave an oral presentation at the 13th International Symposium on Aquatic Oligochaeta.

Invited by Dr. Jana Schenková from Masaryk University of Czech Republic, Dr. CUI Yongde and Ph. D. candidate PENG Yu from Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) attended the 13th International Symposium on Aquatic Oligochaeta during Sept. 7 to Sept. 11, 2015 in Brno, Czech Republic.

During the symposium, participants from 18 countries presented their research discoveries in the fields of “Systematic and Phylogeny”, “Community Ecology”, “Morphology”, “Ecotoxicology” and “Biogeography”. IHB Researcher Dr. Cui gave a presentation with the title of “Aquatic oligochaetes of Qinghai-Xizang Plateau and its adjacent regions, China”. He systematically introduced the progress of researches on aquatic oligochaetes of plateau in China. Funded by University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the graduate student PENG Yu gave a presentation with the title of “Aquatic Oligochaetes from Southern Tibet, China”.

As the tradition goes, the organizing committee arranged the special “microscopy session” during which worms from different countries were observed using microscope. Worms from Tibet aroused widespread concerns from the international counterparts at the symposium.

The triennial ISAO meetings, the highest-level meetings of studying Oligochaeta, have been organized since 1979. The symposia provide a chance for scientific communications and collaborations in the diverse field of aquatic oligochaetes. It was convened in Wuhan in 2006, and will be held in Japan in 2018.

Ph. D. candidate PENG Yu gave an oral presentation at the 13th International Symposium on Aquatic Oligochaeta.
