IHB Researchers Attend 39th Larval Fish Conference of the American Fisheries Society
Dr. XIE Songguanggave a presentationat the 39thLarval Fish Conference of the American Fisheries Society.
Invited by Professor Hubert Keckeis of University of Vienna, Dr. XIE Songguang, Dr. CHENG Fei and graduate student SONG Yiqing from Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB), attended the 39th Larval Fish Conference of the American Fisheries Society during 2015 July 12 to July 18 at University of Vienna, Austria.
Dr. Xie and his team made a series of presentations about larval fishes in the Yangtze River during the meeting. Dr. Xie gave a presentation with the title of “A review of researches and applications about early life history stages of freshwater fishes in China”. He systematically introduced the development of researches on freshwater larval fish in China.
Dr. Cheng gave a presentation with the title of “Spatial pattern of larval fish assemblage in the lower reach of the Yangtze River: potential effects of river-lake connectivity and tidal intrusion”. SONG Yiqing, the graduate student, gave a presentation with the title of “Distribution and dynamic of larval fishes in the middle Yangtze River: preliminary analysis on impact of the Three Gorges Dam”. These two presentations showed the spatial and temporal patterns of larval fish assemblage in the middle and lower reach of Yangtze River, and analyzed the impacted factor in detailed. The series presentations made by IHB researchers aroused widespread concerns from the international counterparts in the conference.
The Early Life History Section (ELHS) is an interest-discipline subunit of the American Fisheries Society (AFS) with an international membership of over 300 scientists. The annual Larval Fish Conferences (ALFC) that serve as the focal point of ELHS activities evolved from a series of informal, freshwater-oriented symposia that began in 1977. It covers a broad international spectrum of freshwater, estuarine, and marine topics related to fish early life history and. ALFC is the highest-level meetings in this field.
