President of American Fisheries Society Visits IHB

 
Ron Essig, current President of American Fisheries Society (AFS), paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) on 3rd November, 2015.
 

Ron Essig, current President of American Fisheries Society (AFS), paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) on 3rd November, 2015. During his visit, he gave a lecture entitled “Sport Fish Restoration Projects in the Northeast United States”.  

In his lecture, he described the Sport Fish Restoration Program (SFR) for funding fisheries work in the United States. Some details of SFR-fund projects in the Northeast United States were presented as examples. Prof. Sovan Lek from France, Prof. Margo Godlewska from Poland and related researchers from IHB attended the lecture. They further discussed the current situations and problems on the conservation and management of fishery resources and restoration in each country.   

After the lecture, Ron Essig visited the Museum for Aquatic Organisms and Baiji Dolphinarium. He spoke highly of the scientific environments and platforms of IHB. He would promote the further and long-term cooperation and communication between AFS and IHB.   

Ron Essig is a fish biologist and current President of American Fisheries Society, and chief of the Fish and Wildlife Branch, Division of Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration, US Fish and Wildlife Service in Hadley, MA.
