The 7thChina-Korea Joint Seminar on Hydrobiological Resources was held from September 16 to 19, 2015 in Incheon, Korea.

The 7th China-Korea Joint Seminar on Hydrobiological Resources was held from September 16 to 19, 2015 in Incheon, Korea. The main subject of the seminar was preservation and utilization of hydrobiological resources. Also, issues regarding development and management of freshwater and marine organisms were discussed. The seminar was jointly organized by Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) and Korea National Research Resource Center. Five Chinese professors from IHB, Tsinghua University, Wuhan University and Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences attended the seminar.

Ten oral presentations were made at the seminar. On behalf of Prof. ZHU Zuoyan (CAS academician), IHB Prof. SUN Yonghua gave a keynote presentation with the title of Development of growth hormone-transgenic common carp in China. And then, Prof. SONG Lirong and Prof. SUN Yonghua gave two presentations, i.e., The Freshwater Algae Culture Collection at the Institute of Hydrobiology (FACHB): algal resources for fundamental and applied research and Zebrafish research in China and the China Zebrafish Resource Center, respectively. The seminar serves as a platform for Chinese and Korean scientists to strengthen cooperation on preservation and utilization of hydrobiological resources, such as fish, algae and micro-organisms.

The China-Korea Joint Seminar was held during the 7th Asian Network of Research Resource Centers (ANRRC) International Meeting. After the seminar, Prof. SUN Yonghua visited Chungnam National University and Korean Institute of Oriental Medicine (KIOM) where he gave a presentation and discussed with the Korean side on substantial cooperation of the introduction of zebrafish resource.

The China-Korea Joint Seminar was jointly launched by IHB Prof. SONG Lirong, director of the Freshwater Algae Culture Collection and Prof. Yeon-hee Lee, director of Korea National Research Resource Center, in 2009. It is then held every year in China or Korea in turn. The seminar aims at strengthening the connection between Chinese and Korean scientists in preservation and study of hydrobiological resources. It was supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China and National Research Foundation of Korea. It is decided that the 8th China-Korea Joint Seminar will be held at IHB in 2016.
