Deputy Chief of Mission at U.S. Embassy Beijing Visits Baiji Dolphinarium

 

Mr. David Rank, deputy chief of mission at U.S. Embassy in Beijing, as well as Mr. Joseph Zadrozny, consul general of U.S. Embassy in Wuhan, paid a visit to Baiji Dolphinarium at IHB on Feb. 10, 2017.    

 
 

Mr. David Rank, deputy chief of mission at U.S. Embassy in Beijing, as well as Mr. Joseph Zadrozny, consul general of U.S. Embassy in Wuhan, paid a visit to Baiji Dolphinarium at Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) on Feb. 10, 2017.    

Prof. XU Xudong, deputy director of IHB, welcomed the visiting guests and introduced the historic development and research directions of the institute. Prof. WANG Ding introduced the overview of Baiji Dolphinarium and showed the guests the daily training of the Yangtze finless porpoises. He also introduced the living status of the porpoises and the conservative measures that have been taken to save the porpoises in details.    

IHB researchers shared their opinions on the protection of the ecological environment in the Yangtze with the visiting guests and hoped that Chinese researchers can learn from the US counterparts on the advanced experiences of river ecosystem management and protection.    

Mr. Rank introduced the experiences accumulated in the ecological protection of the Mississippi River. He said he was willing to push forward the cooperation between the US institutions and IHB in the related fields. Mr. Rank also hoped the Chinese scientists collaborate with the U.S. to keep Asian carps out of the Great Lakes.    

Prof. Xu said IHB could provide support in the control and management solutions of the Asian carps.  On behalf of Baiji Dolphinarium, Prof. WANG Ding exchanged gift with Mr. Rank.
