A delegation led by Mr. Jamie Fouss, consul general at U.S. Consulate in Wuhan, visited the Museum for Aquatic Organisms.
A delegation led by Mr. Jamie Fouss, consul general at U.S. Consulate in Wuhan, paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences on March 28, 2018. Mr. Rick Switzer, Science, Technology & Health (ESTH) Deputy Section Chief at US Embassy, as well as Jonathan Adams, Economic Consul at U.S. Consulate in Wuhan, were with the consul general. During their visit, they visited the Museum for Aquatic Organisms and Baiji Dolphinarium.
At the Museum for Aquatic Organisms, Prof. ZHANG Xianfeng introduced the historic development of the museum to the visiting delegation. He also introduced some of the species collections and the stories behind them. He highlighted the achievements made by IHB in ichthyology, the study and conservation of aquatic biodiversity and fish genetic breeding and transgenic fish.
Mr. Fouss interacted with the museum staff on issues of the protection of endangered species of the Yangtze River and the invasive Asian carps.
At the Baiji Dolphinarium, Prof. WANG Ding and Associate Prof. HAO Yujiang introduced the living status and conservative measures of the Yangtze finless porpoises. Mr. Fouss said that the Baiji Dolphinarium was one of the favorite places where Mr. Joseph Zadrozny, former consul general at U.S. Consulate in Wuhan, would like to visit in Wuhan. So this time, Mr. Fouss was very interested in visiting here and he was attracted by the lovely creature.
Later, Mr. Fouss and Mr. Switzer shared some U.S. experiences and lessons learned in river hydraulic construction and aquatic wildlife conservation. They hoped both sides could push forward personnel exchange of visits in relevant fields and join hands to protect the Yangtze finless porpoises.
