Professor Xiaobing Shi from the Center for Epigenetics at Van Andel Research Institute paid a visit to IHB on December 3, 2018.  

Professor Xiaobing Shi from the Center for Epigenetics at Van Andel Research Institute paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences on December 3, 2018. During his visit, he gave an oral presentation with the title of "Reading the Histone Code".

In his presentation, Prof. Shi first introduced the background information of epigenetic regulation, including chromatin remodeling, DNA methylation, histone modification, histone variants and the regulation of non-coding RNA.  

Then he introduced the work of his lab on histone modification in details, and expounded the significance of AF9 YEATS domain and ING2 PHD domain in histone modification.  

He used a vivid metaphor that "The small hand can only grasp a ping-pong ball but the big hand can grasp a basketball" to compare to the relationship between the "Reader" of posttranslational modification of histone and the posttranslational modification of histone. 

Researchers and postgraduates from IHB listened to the lecture and had in-depth exchange with Professor Shi on issues of mutual interest.
