Ecologists from Griffith University Visit IHB
Prof. Stuart Edward Bunn from Australian Rivers Institute, Griffith University visited IHB on April 15, 2019.
Prof. Stuart Edward Bunn and Prof. Brian Fry from Australian Rivers Institute, Griffith University paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences on April 15th, 2019 to give two lectures with the title of “River-floodplain connectivity and food web subsidies in tropical rivers” and “Tracers show large-scale connectivity across landscapes: a case study of watershed development and sediment erosion impacting downstream coastal fisheries at Brisbane, Australia”.
Prof. Bunn presented his research in the northern tropical floodplain rivers of Australia, especially the food web structure dynamics among seasons. His team has demonstrated that epiphytic algal are the major primary source sustaining consumers in these floodplain rivers, and specific areas of floodplains play a disproportionately important role on the food web of these rivers.
Prof. Fry is the godfather of stable isotope ecology. He presented his recent research on watershed development and sediment erosion impacting downstream fisheries.
Both professors are invited by IHB Prof. XU Jun who is also an expert on stable isotope ecology.
