From August 16 to 18, 2024, the 10th Symposium of French-Chinese Foundation for Science and its Applications (FFCSA) and Kahn-Caen Prize ceremony were held in Hangzhou, marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France.
At the event, SUN Yonghua, Professor from the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was honored with the 2024 Kahn-Caen Prize. He was recognized for his contributions to the establishment of the China Zebrafish Resource Center, one of the three largest zebrafish repositories globally, and for his groundbreaking work on fish reproductive stem cells. Sun presented his research on fish reproductive stem cells and surrogate reproduction following the award ceremony.
The FFCSA was jointly established by the French Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2001. It has since supported over 150 Chinese scholars in conducting postdoctoral research in France. Sun, who was selected for FFCSA funding in 2006, previously conducted postdoctoral research in France at the Institute of Genetics and Molecular and Cellular Biology.
The Kahn-Caen Prize, established in memory of the late Professor Gilles Kahn, is awarded to outstanding young Chinese scientists who have made significant achievements after receiving FFCSA support. Sun Yonghua was this year’s sole recipient of the prestigious award.
