On July 22, 2024, Professor Alain Dauta from Université Paul Sabatier (Toulouse III) in France was invited to the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, for an academic exchange. He delivered a lecture titled "The Keys of Lake Management: Basic Considerations in Order to Propose Reasonable Solutions."
In his presentation, Professor Dauta introduced the fundamental knowledge of lake ecosystems and management strategies, emphasizing the need to consider the multidimensional nature of ecosystems when managing lakes. He highlighted that eutrophication is a natural process, but human activities have significantly accelerated it, leading to water quality degradation and biodiversity loss.
Professor Dauta further discussed key aspects of lake management, such as addressing organic pollution, controlling microbial contamination, and managing nutrients. He particularly emphasized the importance of reducing water pollution by establishing riparian vegetation zones.
Professor Dauta also shared several case studies and proposed basic principles and methods for managing lake ecosystems. He advocated for the scientific formulation of management measures and the rational use of resources to ensure the health and sustainable development of lake ecosystems.
Professor Alain Dauta is a researcher at the Functional Ecology Laboratory of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and Université Paul Sabatier. His primary research focuses on macrophytes, river, and stream ecology.
