Dr. WU Qinglong from Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology Visits IHB

Dr. WU Qinglong from Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology of Chinese Academy of Sciences visited IHB on January 16, 2018.

Dr. WU Qinglong from Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology of Chinese Academy of Sciences visited Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences on January 16, 2018. He gave a presentation entitled "Ecology of uncultured bacteria in inland waters" at IHB.

In his presentation, he summarized the research history of uncultured bacteria in inland waters and introduced recent progress made by his research group. He said the intraspecific diversities of Polynucleobacter cluster were widely found in bacterial populations in inland waters. He also illustrated the application of Fluorescence in situ Hybridization (FISH) in microbial ecology, discussed the advantages and disadvantages of high-throughput sequencing technology in microbial ecology and mentioned the needs for new molecular markers and techniques in microbial ecology.

After the presentation, Dr. Wu exchanged ideas with IHB researchers and achieved preliminary cooperative intention with relevant laboratories at IHB.

Dr. Wu is currently a professor at Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and a recipient of the National Outstanding Youth Foundation. Now he is mainly engaged in the research on lake microbial ecology and restoration ecology.
