A fourteen-member delegation led by MA Jianhua, director of Changjiang Water Resources Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources, paid a visit to IHB on September 14, 2018.

A fourteen-member delegation led by MA Jianhua, director of Changjiang Water Resources Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources, paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences on September 14, 2018.

IHB’s deputy director Prof. YIN Zhan introduced the overview of IHB and the construction of water ecological environment of the Yangtze River basin and the conservation of aquatic animals in the Yangtze River.

The visiting delegation introduced the combined regulation of multi-reservoir systems in the Yangtez Basin, and the plan for establishing the S&T Innovation Alliance of the Yangtze River Conservation.

In his closing remarks, Ma said the visiting was fruitful and rewarding. “We learned more about each other and discussed the plan for the establishment of the S&T Innovation Alliance of the Yangtze River Conservation.” Besides, preliminary cooperation intentions had been achieved in various directions.

As for the all-round cooperation for the next stage, Ma suggested the cooperation platforms and mechanisms among different departments and research directions to be set up to serve the goal of the conservation of the Yangtze River.

He also appealed a special joint action on the ecological and environmental protection in the Yangtze River basin, which could include the ecological restoration of small and medium-sized rivers, ecological restoration of Yangtze-connected lakes, demonstration of ecological compensation mechanisms and establishment of a national key research and development plan for the protection of the Yangtze River.

The discipline advantages and research accumulation shall be fully exerted to jointly conduct researches on the combined regulation of multi-reservoir systems in the Yangtez Basin, Ma added.

“We will establish a mechanism for sharing information, disciplines, talents and research results.” said Ma.

IHB’s deputy director YIN Zhan said Ma’s proposal coincided with IHB’s development plan for the protection of the Yangtze River in recent years. He hoped more cooperation could be carried out between both sides.

“Against the background for the protection of the Yangtze River, we could have in-depth cooperation in much wider fields.” Yin commented.

During the visit, both sides exchanged views on issues related to the impact of large-scale water conservancy projects on the ecological environment and aquatic life of the Yangtze River.
