Professor from University of Chinese Academy of Sciences Visits IHB
Prof. WANG Yanfen, executive vice president of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), paid a visit to IHB on November 20, 2018.
Prof. WANG Yanfen, executive vice president of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences on November 20, 2018. During her visit, she gave an oral presentation with the title of “The ecological process of methane production and oxidation in the wetlands ecosystem-selection a topic of doctoral students in ecology”.
Her presentation focused on the cultivation of doctoral students. Prof. Wang, giving examples of her own research experience, described how to grasp the scientific hot topics when choosing a study project so that the doctoral research would be at the forefront.
Prof. Wang cited the example of methane emissions in the Ruo-er-gai wetland ecosystem conducted by her team. She showed the achievements made by the research team. The macro spatial heterogeneity characteristic of methane emissions in the Ruo-er-gai wetland ecological system was put forth, while the mechanism of methane generation and oxidation in wetland ecosystem by microbial functional groups was revealed.
These research results confirmed that innovative topic selection is not only conducive to the output of systematic results, but also conducive to the in-depth disclosure of scientific problems.
Prof. Wang also introduced the cultivation of ecology talents and the overview of UCAS. She emphasized that interdisciplinary and diversified cultivation and participation in high-level academic exchanges are important ways to cultivate the innovation ability of doctoral students.
