Prof. LI Jiabiao Joins IHB 90th Anniversary Lecture Series

The 90th Anniversary Lecture Series of Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences is going on with the sixth speaker Prof. LI Jiabiao’s keynote presentation on the marine environment issues in the major regional development strategy of China on September 23.    

Prof. Li is a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, director of Second Institute of Oceanography under the Ministry of Natural Resources, and president of Zhejiang Academy of Ocean Sciences.    

In his presentation, he displayed the images captured by the Jiaolong deep-sea submersible, and discussed the coastal environmental pollution and ecological degradation.    

He also introduced the world’s major management practices in treating the water ecological pollution in the typical watersheds. Towards the end of his presentation, he drew the conclusion that the concept of sustainable development has been adopted when formulating the major policies related to the marine ecological and environmental protection.    

Prof. Li’s research interests lie in marine geophysics, marine geology, and technology of deep exploration in deep ocean. He is co-chairman of InterRidge (International InterRidge Science Organization, 2013-2015) and founding chairman of ISO/TC8/SC13 Marine Technology (Marine Sub-committee of International Standard Organization, 2014-2022). He was awarded with two National Prizes for Progress in Science and Technology; one Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation prize; three times of special prize, seven times of first prize, and one time of second prize at ministerial and provincial level.
