Prof. YANG Huanming, director of BGI Group, gives a presentation at IHB, Sept. 23, 2020. 

The 90th Anniversary Lecture Series of Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences is going on with the ninth speaker Prof. YANG Huanming’s keynote presentation on the Earth BioGenome Project (EBP) on September 23.   

Prof. Yang introduced the concept of genome from different perspectives, and its important role in revealing the mystery of life. He also introduced the role BGI Group played in the major international scientific projects.    

Prof. Yang is one of China's leading genetics researchers, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), a member of the Academy of Developing Countries (TWAS), and a member of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. He is currently the director and chairman of BGI Group, co-founded BGI with the other three scientists. Meanwhile, he is also a foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States, the German National Academy of Sciences, the Indian Academy of Sciences, the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences, and the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO).    

Prof. Yang and his teams have made great contribution to various genome research projects, such as the Human Genome Project, the Human Haplogram Project, the Thousand Human Genome Project, the International Cancer Genomics Project, the Chinese Genome Map project, the human pan-genome map, the ancient human genome map, intestinal Meta genome, etc.
