The third science festival launched by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Wuhan was held at Shuiguohu No. 1 Primary School on November 5.

The festival, with the theme of “Hi, Science!”, attracted more than 2,500 primary school students and teachers.

The exhibition stand of Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences was different from the previous years. This year’s stand highlighted the DJI M600 Pro which is equipped with the self-developed hyperspectral camera. The drone can collect hyperspectral remote sensing data from rivers and lakes and play critical role in water environment monitoring.

IHB volunteer Associate Prof. YU Gongliang explained the features of different types of drones, and the spectral properties of plants to the students.

Another IHB volunteer, Associate Prof. XU Dong gave a lecture for the students on constructed wetland and the construction of sponge city. The lecture was so interesting that a queue of students even asked for signature of Xu.

The science festival is held annually to showcase the major and significant S&T achievements made by the CAS researchers, explain hot scientific issues of public concern, and share scientific stories.

During the festival, the Museum of Hydrobiological Sciences and the State Key Laboratory of Freshwater Ecology and Biotechnology opened to the public as well.
