Five researchers from Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), led by Prof. GUI Jianfang, a CAS member, launched a training class in Honghu city, a county-level city in the south of Hubei province, on December 1.

95 people including aquaculture farmers from Honghu and its adjoining regions attended the class.

This training class was part of the “515 Action” launched by Hubei Province to help improve the green development of fishery in Hubei Province.

The action was supported by five members of CAS and Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), who took the lead in forming 15 scientist teams in universities and institutes that are engaged in agriculture. The teams will provide S&T supports in 15 key cities, districts or counties of Hubei.

At the training class, Prof. Gui and Prof. ZHANG Tanglin gave keynote speeches on the development of ecological agriculture by means of fishery S&T innovation, and on the integrated rice-shrimp farming techniques.

Attendees were trained by four experts from IHB, Huazhong Agricultural University and Hubei Fisheries Technology Extension Center on aquaculture techniques.

They also learned about how the pond aquaculture works and the local cultivation of Chinese mitten crab seedling at two fishery co-ops.
