The Culture Lecture of the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was honored to invite CAI Changta, vice president of the Wuhan Branch under the CAS, to give a lecture on how to create great PPT presentation for all the faculty and students on December 22.

Cai began his lecture with the presentation of several PowerPoint slides made by himself. He divided his lecture into three sections which centered on three key elements of creating a great slide– beauty, content and techniques.

Cai presented a bunch of beautiful pictures featuring the beauty of nature, of poems and paintings, and of Chinese calligraphy. With these pictures, he introduced one of the key elements of a good slide – beauty in format.

Cai also summed up several keywords for the production of a great PPT slide. “Contrast, harmony, symmetry, layer, color, concise, to name a few, are my keywords for a slideshow.” Cai said.

The logical flow is also important. “Before making your slide, think about these: Why give a presentation? Who will present? Who’s the audience? What’s the story to be told? On what occasion will this be presented? When is the presentation? How will the presentation be made?” This outline will help you structure your slide, he suggested.

In the discussion session, Cai shared his views on some issues proposed by the audience.
