Prof. LI Jinsong from the Center for Excellence in Molecular Cell Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences visited the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on June 24, 2021.

During his visit, Prof. Li gave a lecture with the title of “Sperm-like Stem Cell-mediated Genome Editing”for IHB researchers and students.

In his lecture, Prof. Li introduced the work of his team. His team had generated mouse androgenetic haploid embryonic stem cells through removed H19-DMR and IG-DMR from mouse solitary male haploid embryonic stem cells.

This haploid embryonic stem cell (also termed “sperm-like stem cell”) can be used as sperm replacement for efficient production of semi-cloned mice (so called semi-cloning (SC) technology). Combined with CRISPR-Cas9 technologies, this cell can be used to conduct genetic screening at individual mouse level.

What’s more, Prof. Li proposed and promoted genome tagging project (GTP) based on sperm-like stem cell technology.

The research achievements of Prof. Li were included in the 2011 and 2012 "Ten Scientific Advances in China". He has published more than 80 research papers in Cell, Nature, Cell Stem Cell, and Nature Cell Biology as the first author or corresponding author.
