The Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences held the commencement ceremony 2022 on June 16, 2022. The ceremony was chaired by MIAO Wei, deputy director of the institute.   

In a message sent to the graduates, YIN Zhan, director of IHB, encouraged them to remain grounded and "seize the opportunity to demonstrate your talents in the era of innovation-driven development and ecological civilization." 

Prof. CAI Qinghua spoke as a representative of graduate mentors. He began his remarks with Chinese poet BAI Juyi’s poem “Remembering South of The River” and talked about many ancient poems related to aquatic biology. He emphasized on being grounded with cultural confidence and encouraged graduates to keep striving to live up to the great era. 

CHENG Linxi, a representative of the graduates, talked about her experience of studying for a PhD. Her sincere sharing resonated with the graduates present, and she said that the days she spent at IHB would become a lasting memory.   

At the event, the graduates presented flowers to their mentors to thank them for their teaching and training.   

Deputy director HU Wei read out the list of 2022 IHB Graduate Scholarships. Deputy directors LIANG Qiong and HU Wei presented the awards to the graduates who won the scholarships. Deputy director XIE Shouqi presented the award to PENG Xue, the winner of 2022 Yunshui Scholarship.   

The directors of IHB later conferred the degree certificate on each graduate one after another, and turned the tassels for each of them.       

The graduation ceremony was ended with a wonderful guitar performance by graduates.   

Youth and farewell collided, and joy and sorrow were eventually reconciled into a warm sentiment that flowed through the venue. A group photo was taken to freeze all the beauty.    

May all graduates sail out of the institute with love, harvest, and fragrance.
