Deputy Secretary General of Kunming Visits IHB

A delegation led by LI Xiongbin, deputy secretary general of Kunming Municipal People's Government, visited the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences on July 1, 2022 to discuss the protection, management and ecological restoration of Lake Dianchi in Yunnan province. In the entourage were CHEN Jing, the director of Kunming Dianchi Administration, and YANG Jinlun, the deputy director of Kunming Water Bureau, as well as several other officials.   

YIN Zhan, director of IHB, welcomed the delegation. “The research teams from our institute have conducted long-term studies on the ecological restoration and treatment of Lake Dianchi, and have developed a number of national projects that have produced significant results,” said Yin.   

A representative of IHB's research team working on Lake Dianchi, Prof. WU Xingqiang reported relevant work in Dianchi, as well as the intention of cooperating in Dianchi management going forward. Other experts made further additions and active suggestions for future key cooperation directions.   

During the meeting, heads of the different departments in Kunming Dianchi Management Bureau and Water Bureau discussed the S&T needs and present problems in Dianchi management, and offered suggestions for future cooperation.   

In confirming the importance of the IHB in the governance and protection of Dianchi Lake, the deputy secretary general hoped that its researchers would be problem-oriented and develop further close collaboration with Kunming on all levels and between all channels.   

Immediately following the meeting, Li and his entourage visited the East Lake Ecological Restoration Demonstration Area to learn more about the improvement of water quality and ecology and ecological restoration.
