A delegation led by DONG Jinhe, deputy director general of the Bureau of Fisheries under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA), visited the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences during February 16 to 17, 2023 to investigate the large water surface ecological fishery.   

On February 16th, the delegation had a field trip to the institute’s large water surface ecological fishery center in Wuhu, where they investigated the fisheries enhancement project that is being piloted in Hubei Province.   

On February 17th, the institute held a symposium on large water surface ecological fisheries. YIN Zhan, director of IHB, welcomed the delegation.    

WANG Dan from the Bureau of Fisheries introduced their purposes of visit – What should be done to develop ecological fisheries in light of the Yangtze River fishing ban? How should the relationship between aquaculture and environmental capacity be handled? How can the norms and standards of ecological fisheries be established as soon as possible?   

Prof. GUI Jianfang (CAS member) and Prof. LIU Jiashou gave presentations on the relationship between aquaculture and the ecological environment, 10-year fishing ban, and large water surface ecological fishery.    

DONG Jinhe stressed the importance of addressing the relationship between production and ecology, and promoting integrated planning and scientific, stable and orderly growth.
