IHB's "Zebrafish Stress Behavior Analysis Device" Recognized as an Excellent Research Instrument Case by China Association for Science and Technology
The Chinese Association for Science and Technology announced the results of the 2022 Excellent Research Instrument Case Collection and Selection Activity on March 15, 2023, where the "Zebrafish Stress Behavior Analysis Device" developed by the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was recognized as an excellent research instrument case in the second category.
Dr. QIAO Zhixian from the Analysis and Testing Center of the institute was the main contributor to the development of the device. This device is designed as a module that can be installed on the existing zebrafish behavior analysis system. It includes a vibration and sound stimulation module and a strong light stimulation module that expands the functions of existing instruments and allows for quick and efficient control of lighting and sound conditions, as well as setting up behavioral experiments.
The device is capable of comprehensively analyzing zebrafish's movement trajectory, speed, social behavior, and activity level, among other stress behaviors. The system has been used in numerous research projects, including the impact of sound waves on the abnormal development of otoliths and the behavior and activity of zebrafish. It has also been used to study the reduction of swimming distance and speed, endocrine disorders caused by β-violet ketone, and the movement trajectory and organ toxicity of Microcystin-LR on large-scale mud carp, among other projects.
Out of over 900 submissions, 100 excellent cases were selected after peer review by experts in related fields. The Analysis and Testing Center, guided by the institute's scientific and technological innovation needs, actively played their initiative to continuously innovate and break through in the development, transformation, application, service, and management of research instruments.
The center accumulated excellent cases and continuously enhanced the development and utilization level of research instruments, fully unleashing their potential for research and service. It provided strong technical support for the institute's series of high-level research achievements, making positive contributions to achieving high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and self-improvement.
