Delegation Reviews Chishui River Fish Conservation Efforts and Discusses Yangtze River Protection

On May 16-17, 2024,a delegation led by YU Kangzhen, Counselor of the State Council and former vice minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and MA Yi, member of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and former director of the Fishery Supervision and Administration Office of the Yangtze River Basin, conducted a field study at the Chishui Field Station for Conservation of Rare and Endemic Fishes of the Upper Yangtze River and Monitoring of Aquatic Biodiversity. The delegation also held a symposium on the protection of rare and endemic fish species in the Chishui River. The event was attended by officials and experts from Guizhou Province, Zunyi City, and the Institute of Hydrobiology.

At the symposium, the delegation was briefed on the progress and challenges of aquatic biodiversity conservation efforts. Participants exchanged views on advancing the "Ten-Year Fishing Ban on the Yangtze River," achieving a balance between ecological protection and socioeconomic development, enhancing resource monitoring in the Yangtze River Basin, and strengthening the protection of aquatic biological resources.
