On the afternoon of October 22, 2024, TANG Wanfeng, director general of the Department of Ecology and Environment of Qinghai Province, and deputy director general WU Huaimin, along with a delegation of eight, visited the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to discuss the management of filamentous algae and pollutant tracing in Qinghai Lake.
XIE Shouqi, deputy director of IHB, delivered a welcome address. He outlined the institute's advancements and expertise in aquatic ecological protection, lake pollution management, and ecological restoration, emphasizing a commitment to collaborate with the Department of Ecology and Environment of Qinghai Province to enhance Qinghai Lake’s environmental conservation.
Tang highlighted the critical challenges faced by Qinghai Lake and the broader region's aquatic ecosystems. He outlined specific needs in areas such as filamentous algae management, pollutant tracing, and ecological monitoring. Tang expressed hopes of leveraging IHB’s scientific capabilities to support Qinghai’s water environment conservation efforts and achieve breakthroughs in lake management.
During the meeting, XIONG Xiong, an associate professor at IHB, presented findings on the management of filamentous algae in Qinghai Lake, sharing insights into its causes and control measures. Dr. HUANG Xiaolong from the Yangtze River Monitoring and Research Center elaborated on key technologies for tracing lake pollutants, offering valuable perspectives for the lake’s protection and governance.
The two sides engaged in an in-depth discussion on critical issues related to Qinghai Lake’s management. They explored potential collaboration in algae management, aquatic ecosystem monitoring, and ecological protection, ultimately reaching a consensus to deepen cooperative efforts.
