Experts Review Ecological Restoration Plan for Honghu Lake

On November 5, 2024, the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences hosted a review meeting for the Hubei Province ecological research project titled “Impact of Wind, Waves, and Fish Disturbance on the Water Environment of Honghu Lake and Ecological Restoration Technologies.”
The meeting brought together a panel of experts from leading institutions, including Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as representatives from the Hubei Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment and the Honghu Wetland Nature Reserve.
IHB’s deputy director, XIE Shouqi, welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of providing strong support to ensure the project’s successful implementation. The project team then presented a comprehensive plan, outlining the objectives, research methods, timeline, and expected outcomes. After a thorough discussion, the expert panel unanimously approved the plan.
ZHANG Zhonghua, from the Hubei Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment, highlighted the need to accelerate the application of the research findings to support the ecological restoration of Honghu Lake. HE Haiyan, deputy director of the Honghu Wetland Nature Reserve, emphasized the project's importance and urged continued collaboration between all parties involved.
Project leader LIU Biyun assured the panel that the team would refine the plan based on the experts' feedback and work to ensure the project’s timely and successful completion.
