IHB Hosts Exchange Meeting for 2025 National Natural Science Foundation Project Applications

The Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences hosted an informative exchange meeting to guide faculty and researchers on the upcoming 2025 National Natural Science Foundation (NSFC) project applications on January 24, 2025. The event, which attracted nearly 200 participants, including researchers, graduate students, and staff, was conducted both online and in-person. The meeting was led by deputy director HU Wei. 

The event featured several key experts who shared their insights into the application process. LIANG Qiong, deputy director of IHB, presented a report on scientific integrity in the context of NSFC applications. She underscored the importance of maintaining ethical standards in research and shared recent case studies to highlight potential pitfalls. 

Prof. XIAO Wuhan offered practical advice based on his experience with successful project applications. His presentation covered key topics such as identifying promising research questions, refining project objectives, and developing technical approaches that align with NSFC funding criteria.

LONG Yinsha from the Office of Finance and Accounting, provided a detailed overview of the financial management aspects of NSFC projects. She discussed budget planning, project categorization, and other essential financial considerations that researchers must address during the application process.

CHENG Lin, deputy head of the Office of Research and Technology Development, briefed the attendees on the latest updates from the NSFC, including new project types, application limits, and important changes to funding policies. She also reviewed the performance of IHB’s 2024 project applications and shared key preparations for the 2025 cycle. 

In his closing remarks, deputy director HU Wei praised the institute’s achievements in securing NSFC funding and emphasized the importance of applying with professionalism, rigor, and a deep commitment to scientific inquiry. He encouraged attendees to focus on high-quality research and provided clarity on common questions regarding the application process. 

This meeting marked the official launch of the 2025 NSFC project application cycle at IHB, underscoring the institute’s ongoing commitment to advancing scientific research and innovation.
