On the afternoon of May 21, 2025, the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences welcomed Prof. XU Hongbin and Prof. GAO Jingqing from Zhengzhou University, along with Prof. LI Yuying from Nanyang Normal University, for an academic exchange. The visiting scholars delivered presentations covering topics including constructed wetlands and ecological security of water diversion projects.
Prof. XU Hongbin first introduced the background of ecological wetland technology and its applications. Through practical case studies, he systematically explained the use of multi-stage free water surface wetland systems for water quality improvement, analyzed new functional requirements for tailwater treatment wetlands, and highlighted the advantages of integrated wetland systems such as high efficiency and small footprint.
Prof. GAO Jingqing presented in detail the application of constructed wetland technology in enhanced nitrogen and phosphorus removal as well as heavy metal and emerging contaminant treatment. He analyzed the latest research progress in anti-clogging techniques for constructed wetlands and discussed existing challenges and potential improvements based on real engineering applications.
Prof. LI Yuying focused on ecological issues in the South-North Water Diversion Middle Route's water source area. She introduced her team's research approaches and innovative work, sharing key technologies including four-level ecological barriers, zoned collaborative restoration, biological integrity assessment, and digital twin systems for intelligent water quality management.
Prof. XU Hongbin, a national registered environmental engineer and Henan Province's outstanding expert in environmental impact assessment, currently serves as associate dean of the School of Ecology and Environment at Zhengzhou University and director of the Henan Water Environment Emergency Engineering Research Center. His research focuses on water pollution control and ecological restoration.
Prof. GAO Jingqing, currently serving as associate dean of the Research Institute of Science and Technology at Zhengzhou University and director of the Henan Microbial Inoculum Engineering Technology Research Center, has long been engaged in research and practice of water pollution control and ecological restoration technologies.
Prof. LI Yuying, currently serving as dean of College of South to North Water Diversion and College of Water Resources and Modern Agriculture at Nanyang Normal University, engaged in research in aquatic ecology, pollution and ecological restoration, agricultural ecology.
