IHB Leadership Conducts Strategic Visit to Key Aquaculture Institutions in Guangdong

A delegation from the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, led by MIAO Wei, director of IHB, and XIE Shouqi, deputy director of IHB, conducted a visit to major aquaculture research institutes and enterprises in Guangdong Province during May 27-28, 2025. The visit aimed to strengthen industry-academia-research collaboration and identify key technological needs in China's aquaculture sector.
On May 27, the IHB delegation visited the Pearl River Fisheries Research Institute (PRFRI), Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences (CAFS), where they toured core facilities including the Laboratory of Aquatic Germplasm Resources and Genetic Breeding. In discussions with PRFRI director SUN Huiwu and deputy director HUANG Zhibin, both sides exchanged views on conservation of aquatic biodiversity in the Yangtze and Pearl River basins, innovative approaches to new aquatic variety development, disease prevention and vaccine development, and tailwater treatment technologies.
The meetings concluded with preliminary agreements to establish regular cooperation mechanisms.
The following day, the delegation visited industry leaders Guangdong Haid Group and Guangdong Nutriera Group, engaging with senior management and R&D teams to discuss enterprise innovation needs and technology adoption, commercialization of research achievements, core technological breakthroughs and product upgrading strategies.
This visit will help align the institute's research priorities with market demands and accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries into practical solutions for China's aquaculture sector.
