DING Chibiao, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, visited the Chishui River Observation and Research Station for Rare and Endemic Fish Conservation and Aquatic Biodiversity (hereinafter referred to as “Chishui River Station”) for a research inspection on October 17, 2025. The station is established and managed by the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Ding and his delegation observed on-site the monitoring of fishing ban effects in the Chishui River and experimental work on the natural reproduction of the Yangtze sturgeon. They inquired about data collection and technological breakthroughs and participated in the release of the nationally protected second-class species, the Chinese sucker.
Subsequently, they inspected breeding facilities and technologies for rare and endemic fish species in the upper Yangtze River, listened to reports from the Chishui River Station and IHB on scientific innovation and planning, and held discussions with IHB leadership and research staff on challenges and future development directions.
Ding urged the station to focus on forward-looking scientific questions and key technologies, strengthen fundamental research, promote application and transformation, and advance interdisciplinary integration. He also highlighted the importance of continuing the legacy of three generations of scientists who have persevered in ecological conservation along the Chishui River, aiming to further serve as a model in national ecological protection and in meeting local needs.
The inspection was accompanied by LU Fangjun, Director of the CAS Bureau of Basic Science and Technology Capacity, and LI Hongmei, Vice Mayor of Chishui City.
